Payment Methods

LemonStand supports over 95 different payment methods across 100 different countries. You can see the most up to date list sorted by region here.  We also have custom methods that allow you to do things like accept COD or "pay by check" orders. Your store can be configured with any number of payment methods simultaneously.

Managing Payment Methods

To manage your store's payment methods, navigate to the Business Settings > Payment Methods page. From here, you can edit the currently configured payment methods or add new ones. Payment Gateways are split into 2 groups; Standard and Custom.

Standard payment gateways include the majority of our payment gateways. Standard payment gateways provide the ability for customers to make a payment with that payment gateway while staying on your site. The payment form will be within your store.

Alternative Gateways include Amazon Pay, BitPay, PayPal and the ability to make custom payments. Alternative gateways have more settings that don't match the standard gateways.

Standard Gateway Settings

All payment methods use some common settings. You can configure these settings specific to each payment method. Alternative Payment Gateways will have additional settings.

General Settings

The General Parameters section allows you to specify some basic settings for that payment method. All payment methods will have the same general parameters.

  • Name: The name of the payment method to be displayed on your storefront, visible to your customers.
  • Description: A description can also be provided and will be displayed on your storefront if your theme allows for it.

  • Enabled frontend: This option enables the payment method on the frontend of your store for customers to use.
  • Enabled admin: This option enables the payment method in the backend when creating orders manually (this feature is coming soon)
  • Receipt Page: Here you can set the page that the customers are redirected to after successful payment. Most themes include a Receipt page.
  • API Code: You can use the API Code for identifying the payment method in API calls and other advanced customizations.

Visibility Settings

The Visibility section allows you to specify which countries and/or customer groups the payment method will be available to. If you leave all countries unchecked the payment method will be applicable to any country. If you leave all customer groups unchecked, the payment method will be applicable to any customer croup.

If you check specific countries, this payment method will only be available to customers from that country (and any selected customer groups). If you check specific customer groups, this payment method will only be visible to customers in that customer group (and any selected countries)

The countries you may select for this payment method are limited to the ones that are configured in the Business Settings > Countries & States section. If you have disabled a country in that area, it will not be available for the shipping method.

The customer groups you can select are configured in the Customers > Customer Groups in your LemonStand admin.

Checkout Settings

  • Default Payment Method: If checked this payment method will be selected default when the customer gets to the payment step during checkout.
  • Authorization Type: Selecting Purchase will charge the card. Authorize will check the validity of the card and put a hold on the amount.
  • Order Status: When a successful payment is completed this is the status the order will take.

Credential Settings

Standard gateways have all the above settings in common, however they differ at Credential Settings. The image above shows credential settings for Authorize.Net but the actual fields will be different for different payment providers.

For many of our more popular payment methods, we have a specific document with more details that are specific to that payment method, which you can see listed in the side navigation menu of this article.

If you have any questions on what credentials or other settings you should be using for your chosen payment method or can't find them in our help documentation, please contact our support team and they can help make sure you get things set up correctly.

Setting up Test Credit Card Payments

LemonStand includes a built-in test payment method that will let you test out your store's checkout. You can add this method by searching "Test Credit Card" in the list of available methods.

Once this method is configured for your store, you can test your checkout using it. See: Testing Payments in Your LemonStand Store for details on test credit card numbers.

Setting up Custom Payments

LemonStand includes a built-in payment method for custom payments. This method allows you to add a payment method for non credit-card payments. You can add this method by searching "Custom Payments" in the list of available methods.

For example, you could add a Custom payment method, and configure it to use a special receipt page that you have already created called "COD Receipt". On this page, you could include text that instructs the customer to have money ready for the Cash On Delivery order.

Custom payment methods is a flexible way to accept non credit-card payments in an open-ended way.

PCI Compliance

There are 2 types of payment integrations that you should be aware of for PCI compliance, Standard and Alternative.

Standard Payment Methods

The majority of our 95+ payment integrations are what we call Standard payment methods and connect to your payment provider through a PCI Level 1 secure card vaulting service called Spreedly. All Standard payment gateway integrations use Spreedly's iframe integration method specifically to reduce the burden of PCI compliance for all of our customers.

The result is that your LemonStand store's checkout pages do not touch, process or store cardholder data, and do not serve any card collection forms (forms are served by Spreedly via an iframe). For more details on Spreedly's PCI Level 1 certification, click the link below:

Alternative Payment Methods

These payment methods (examples include PayPal Payments Standard, Amazon Pay, Bitpay, etc.) connect to the payment provider by redirecting your customers to pay via an offsite payment form that is served directly by your payments provider. Once payment is complete, your customers are redirected back to your LemonStand hosted store (usually a receipt page) to complete the purchasing experience.

The result is similar to that of our Standard payment methods. Your LemonStand store's checkout pages do not touch, process or store cardholder data directly, and do not serve any card collection forms. For PCI certification details on any of our Alternative payment methods, see PCI details from the payment processor directly.

PCI Self-Assessment for Merchants

The end result of LemonStand's approach to integrating both Standard and Alternative payment gateways is that all LemonStand customers are only required to complete the simplest SAQ-A self-assessment questionnaire (a much reduced self-assessment burden).

You can find the latest questionnaire document for SAQ-A here:
